Saginaw Transit Authority Regional Services (STARS) is on track to implement a new bus route system on Monday, August 21 and are asking residents to help test the new system. On Saturday, August 12, from 2 to 6 p.m., STARS will test the new system – and the rides are free. Rides before 2 pm will be charged standard fares.
“As STARS gears up for the new route system starting August 21, we need to see how it operates in the real world, passengers and all. That’s why we’re running this test. If you want to run errands, go visit family, or even just ride around to see how the routes work, you’ll also be helping STARS,” said Glenn Steffens, Executive Director for STARS.
STARS has route maps and schedules available at the STARS Transit Center and online at www.saginaw-stars.com. STARS customer kiosk is open from 8am-5pm Monday through Friday, and a Help Desk is open on the STARS Transit Plaza on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Questions also can be directed to the STARS planning department at 907-4013. Residents are encouraged to stop by, visit, or call STARS to get information about the new route system.
“STARS plans on answering a ton of questions during the new route test. We want to make sure the community is prepared for this change, and are making sure every question gets answered,” said Steffens, adding, “If you want to know how to get around under this new system, STARS is here to help. Contact us and we will walk you through your entire day under this new system. What bus to catch, where to catch it, what time, and what transfers you need.”
The free rides apply only to rides on the new bus route system on Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m. The current bus routes (operating from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.) will cost the standard fare of $1.50. STARS LIFT and the new STARS Express will cost the standard fares as well. STARS will revert the Saturday schedule back to normal (8am-2pm) the following Saturday (August 19).
